My Dearest Indonesia

I’m proud as Indonesian

I was born in Indonesia from Indonesian parents and feel grateful for that. I saw the world (Indonesia) for the first time at 1977, when this country still under “the new order era” (masa orde baru) leadership. Many people said we could not speak freely coz it would be questions as a traitor or rebel. The biggest politic party at that time held the majority of parliament. Everyone who’d badmouth about the government threaded to be caught and prison without trial.

But the other hand, government at that time also made sure that people who loyal get the reward. People in rural area get guidance for their work in agriculture field so would produced more. Government subsidized many things so people have a stable price for their major need. Not bad, you ask me.

Then, in 1998 the “new order” collapsed. Indonesia entered “the reformation era”. Corruption was a big issue that made people gathered their power to change the governmental system. Soeharto, the current Indonesian President (for 32 years) gave up his position.

Today, over one decade, Indonesia still struggle with “reformation”. Still search the most suitable form for the biggest archipelago country in the world. Corruptions still is a major issue and citizen welfare also suffers. There are many things to do for making Indonesia a Great Nation. But.. I still proud as and to be Indonesian..
